The Melodic Construction Of My Song

For this post, I'll explained about the construction of my melody as well as other things that I've added to my song. The melody is played through a lead synthesiser. The full song is at the bottom of this posts along with the lyrics. Without further or due,  I'll walk you through the song section by section.

Verse:

The melodic form of the verse is essentially an AB. The B section starts as soon as it changes to the IV chord.

Chorus:

For the chorus, the form is an ABC and it is repeated once.

After the first chorus, the melody remains the same for the second verse and chorus.

Bridge:

The bridge of the song is pretty simple, it is an AAAB.

Final Chorus:

The third and final chorus is pretty much the same as the other two. But on the repeat a note is raised, which is a really common thing to do for final choruses.

Outro:

The outro of the song consists of a repeat of a really short phrase. The phrase is repeated three times with a raised note on the third time.

Other Additions:

I've added the guitar parts to the song by connecting my guitar to an audio interface which connects to Logic Pro X. I made sure that input monitoring and recording are enabled. I've also decided to use an amp preset called 'Smooth Studio Verb'.

To make the song a tad bit more modern, I've added a synth bass which is essentially a sub-bass to the fingerstyle bass, a synth bell and synth strings.

The Song:

So here's the progress of my song so far. As usual, I'll gladly welcome any form of feedback.

Lyrics:

[Verse]
Dissatisfied, dissatisfied oh you will be.
Be silent.
He said, "don't you worry, he ain't sorry anymore."
Be silent.

[Chorus]
All those people told me, "don't look back in anger"
Little do they know that the flame is coming.
All those people told me, "do come back and help us"
Little do they know that the end's upon us.

[Verse]
Don't be afraid, the flames are bright oh you will see.
Be silent.
You know, there's no story, there's no story to be told.
Be silent.

[Chorus]
All those people told me, "don't look back in anger"
Little do they know that the flame is coming.
All those people told me, "do come back and help us"
Little do they know that the end's upon us.

[Bridge]
Don't you say sorry, he ain't gonna worry.
Don't you say sorry, seeking your glory.
Don't you say sorry, he ain't gonna worry
Don't you say sorry anymore.

[Chorus]
All those people told me, "don't look back in anger"
Little do they know that the flame is coming.
All those people told me, "do come back and help us"
Little do they know that the end's upon us.

[Outro]
It's decided.
It's decided.
It's decided.
It's decided.

Comments

  1. Ok. As we discussed this is essentially a blues. It's trying to be funky, but the bass rhythm is a little square. Square can work, but I'm not sure the rest of the band agrees. Guitar solos are something that are generally added later. The aren't really part of the song and the producer may decide to use something else.

    2. Depends on the producer then. I'll see what they think of it.
